GEORGE CHARONIS

Dr. George Charonis studied Medicine at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, specialized in Ophthalmology at the University of Louisville, KY, USA and subspecialized in Oculofacial Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at UCLA. He obtained his PhD in Medicine at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

He is a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology, Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a full member of ASOPRS and ESOPRS. He was the organizer of the 35th ESOPRS meeting in Athens. He is past President of the Hellenic Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and of the Hellenic Society of Ophthalmology and a Committee Member of ESOPRS for the past 8 years.

He is the co-founder of Athens Vision Eye Institute and is currently the Director of the Oculofacial Plastic Surgery Department of Athens Vision. His scientific interests are aesthetic and reconstructive eyelid surgery, lacrimal surgery and orbital decompression surgery.

He has authored several book chapters and publications and has lectured extensively in the past 30 years in National and International meetings as an Invited speaker and has organized fresh cadaver courses for advanced Oculoplastic Surgery techniques.

He was a member of the Greek National Water ski team for over 15 years and was the former Greek National record holder in Tricks and a two-time National Overall champion.

He is a founding member and member of the board of Axion Hellas, a non-profit volunteer organization that focuses on support of vulnerable local communities by providing health services, improvement of living conditions and promotion of natural and cultural awareness.
