ALEXANDER CHARONIS

Alexander Charonis is an ophthalmologist specializing in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery, medical retina, and ocular inflammatory diseases (uveitis). He is the Director of the Retina Department at Athens Vision Eye Institute.
He completed his ophthalmology residency at the internationally renowned Jules Stein Eye Institute, University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), followed by a two-year fellowship in Vitreoretinal Diseases and Surgery at the Doheny Eye Institute, University of Southern California (USC). He subsequently completed additional fellowship training in Ocular Inflammatory Diseases and Uveitis at UCLA/Jules Stein Eye Institute.
Dr. Charonis is certified by both the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO) and the European Board of Ophthalmology (EBO).
He graduated from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens School of Medicine with highest honors. In the national university entrance examinations, he ranked first among all candidates admitted to the Athens Medical School.
Following completion of his training in the United States, Dr. Charonis served as an attending vitreoretinal specialist affiliated with leading academic institutions, including the Doheny Eye Institute/University of Southern California, and participated actively in clinical care, research, and resident education.
Since 2006, he has been practicing at Athens Vision Eye Institute, where he established and directs the Retina Department. His clinical work focuses on vitreoretinal surgery, macular diseases, diabetic eye disease, retinal vascular disorders, ocular inflammation, and retinopathy of prematurity.
He remains actively involved in clinical research, medical education, scientific societies, editorial work, as well as national and international clinical advisory activities.
